About Michael

Michael Kelly implemented his first employee survey program in two dozen factories while Director of Operations Training for Levi Strauss International in 1977. While working for Levi Strauss, Michael earned his M.S. in Human Resources and Organizational Development from University of San Francisco.

Michael left Levis in 1987 and continued survey work as an independent consultant, which included a survey for The Great Place to Work Institute in San Francisco–check out the first testimonial to your left.

Michael joined Saratoga Institute in 1999, working for SI and for Pricewaterhouse-Coopers (they bought SI in 2003) until he retired as an employee in 2007. Much of his work with Saratoga/PwC involved linking survey data with human capital metrics, benchmarking, and client demographics to produce business-oriented action plans.

During his career, Michael has produced surveys for big companies like Toyota Motors, Fugitsu Computer Systems, Intel, Federal Express, Zurich US, Prudential, World Bank, Ingram Book (”If you bought a book from Amazon, Ingram shipped it”) and Performance Food Group (world’s largest food distribution company). He has also worked with small companies like Fetzer Winery, Taleo (talent tracking software), Bryant University (Canada), Atlanta Housing Authority, Panther Creek Coal (PA), and many others in a wide variety of industries.

Today, Michael lives with his wife Carol in Portland, Oregon, where he works solo as a survey consultant. He is known for his ability to produce and analyze amazingly affordable employee surveys, fast and astonishingly well.
